2023 Topps Composite Football Hobby Box
Outside of college products the last couple of years, Topps has pretty much only done one-off football products since losing the NFL license following the 2015 season. 2023 Topps Composite Football changes that. Taking a page from Panini Chronicles, the set brings several top brands (and a new one) under one umbrella.
It’s Chrome-heavy with a checklist that is dominated by retired stars and legends. That said, a quartet of rookie quarterbacks are a major focal point as well.
While collectors will have multiple configurations to choose from at both the hobby and retail levels, it’ll be traditional hobby boxes where a lot will go. Besides finding a wide variety of designs, these are autograph-forward as well with three signatures.
2023 Topps Composite Football Checklist Overview
All told, the 2023 Topps Composite Football checklist has a base set that tops 400 cards. But it’s broken down into several subsets, each representing a different brand from the company’s portfolio. These include Topps Chrome, Topps Chrome Black, Finest, Cosmic Chrome, Midnight, Heritage, Topps Gallery, and Allen & Ginter. There’s also Resurgence, a line that debuts here. It’s a name that’s appropriate enough given the product’s push to get Topps back in football before Fanatics eventually takes over as the NFL’s sole license for trading cards in 2026.
Overall, there are lots of Hall of Famers covering multiple decades. However, Composite also has a lot of cards from CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, Anthony Richardson and Will Levis. All four rookie quarterbacks have multiple autographs on the checklist as well.
Besides having different designs and features, each brand has its own mix of parallels. With many opting for a chromium foundations, Refractors are very much in play for the majority of the base cards.
Signatures take a similar multi-brand approach. Topps Chrome, Cosmic Chrome and Topps Chrome Black all have Base Autographs.
Memorabilia and ink combine in a handful of different hits under the broader Composite name.
Standard inserts adopt a similar eclectic mix. Chrome themes include All-Etch, tough Radiating Rookies and Let’s Go.
Throwbacks are in fashion with 1973 Topps Football Chrome and Football Flashbacks.
Keeping in line with many recent Topps offerings, there are multiple scarce inserts. Besides Radiating Rookies and Let’s Go, there’s Dazzling Debuts, Resurgence Retro Vision and Urban Legends.
While Fanatics has the NFL license on the horizon, it doesn’t start here. 2023 Topps Composite Football does not carry any league trademarks or logos.
